As we approach the mid-point of the UN Decade for Ecosystem Restoration and the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, the Endangered Landscapes & Seascapes Programme is proud of the progress made in 2024.
Key achievements include the completion of grants for pioneering Phase 1 projects in the Carpathian Mountains (Romania), Gökova Bay to Cape Gelidonya (south-western Türkiye), and Greater Côa Valley (Portugal). These projects, along with others concluding in the coming year, reflect years of collaboration, persistence, and hard work in ecosystems under pressure.
Looking ahead, 2025 promises to be a year of growth and opportunity. As several grants reach completion, new initiatives will focus on scaling up restoration efforts across Europe. Our first dedicated seascape restoration cohort begins in 2025, and the selection process for a new phase of landscape restoration projects is ongoing. The Endangered Landscapes & Seascapes Programme remains committed to supporting bold, ambitious projects that restore balance to our ecosystems and benefit both nature and people.
