Increase the number of trained individuals

Data collection in progress

Kakheti Steppes

Problem: Stakeholder involvement is critical to SABUKO’s protected area work being effective. If relevant stakeholders do not have the appropriate capacity to undertake their activities such as patrolling protected areas, the long-term effectiveness of conservation in this area will be jeopardised.

Action: SABUKO organises training events and workshops to build capacity amongst its stakeholders.

Indicator: The number of training events held and attendees of these events will indicate a growing capacity amongst SABUKO’s partners, and chart the growing advancement in equipping individuals with the essential skills and knowledge necessary for sustainable protected area management.

Methods

SABUKO keeps a record of all the training events they host. They also record the number of attendees and associated participant information. Additionally, they developed questionnaires to distribute at the end of the events, which they use to assess the effectiveness and continually improve their training programs. They will collate and report this data annually.

Participants of these trainings and workshops include Protected Area staff, managed reserve administrators, and Georgia-Azerbaijan border police. These events and resources include the following topics:

  • Using drones for wildlife research
  • Biodiversity, naturalness and ecosystem processes
  • Habitat restoration/ecosystem management
  • Wildlife protection
  • Sustainable resource management
  • Climate change adaptation
  • Biodiversity monitoring and conservation techniques
  • Wildlife law enforcement
  • Community engagement and conflict resolution
  • Environmental education and outreach
  • Patrolling
  • Biodiversity Field Guides for rangers
