Problem: One of the reasons grassland quality has degraded over decades in this region is because of a lack of awareness. The upcoming generation’s awareness and interest in this issue will help promote long-term change in the area.
Action: SABUKO is spreading awareness about the importance of sustainable grassland use, in part by providing a university course and supervising students to complete grassland ecology-related theses.
Indicator: The number of graduated students with theses related to the project reflects the amount of interest in sustainable grasslands. It also demonstrates the active involvement of academics in partnership with SABUKO, a key relationship in improving our understanding of grassland quality.
Methods
SABUKO can access the number of students enrolled annually in the Grassland Ecology and Management course at Ilia State University. They also track the number of theses at the MSc or PhD level related to grassland and rangeland ecology. Lastly, they collect feedback from all students enrolled on the course. This survey provides SABUKO with continuous feedback to improve course quality over the coming years.
Results
In the first year of the course, 2024, two students were enrolled. We will update this page in the coming years once we have more data on enrolment, number of completed theses, and feedback from students on course quality.
