ELP launch: Gökova Bay
Sophie Benbow, Marine Programme Manager at Fauna & Flora International (FFI), introduces the ELP-funded Gökova Bay project in Turkey at the Endangered Landscapes Programme launch in Cambridge, UK, in October 2018.
Stretching from Gökova Bay to Cape Gelidonya along southwestern Turkey’s Mediterranean coastline, this project area provides critical habitat for charasmatic species such as sandbar sharks and sperm whales. This project will restore and connect ecosystems along more than 500 km of coastline, boosting the area’s resilience to the worst effects of climate change and invasive species, as well as securing future for the livelihoods of local people who depend on this important marine ecosystem.
